ICAEW Debt For Deals - Emerging trends and best practice in corporate finance transactions

24 April 2019, 08:30 - 10:30 Tilney, Royal Liver Building Pier Head, Liverpool, L3 1NY

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) Corporate Finance Faculty has teamed up with the Liverpool City Region LEP to host a ‘Debt for Deals’ breakfast forum in Liverpool on Wednesday 24th April.

The forum, hosted for ICAEW by Tilney in the world-famous Royal Liver Building, has been devised to help companies, advisers and investors find effective ways of funding and structuring deals at a time of rapid commercial, policy and regulatory change for the debt markets in the UK and internationally. The expert panel will include: Marion Bernard, UK Managing Director of the Firmament Group; Anil Gupta, Head of Debt Advisory – North of England, Deloitte; Graeme Sands, Head of Business Banking, Clydesdale & Yorkshire Banking Group; and Steve Stuart, Chair - Business & Professional Service Board, Liverpool LEP. The discussion will be moderated by David Petrie, Head of Corporate Finance, ICAEW.

Subjects under discussion will include increasing specialisation in acquisition finance, structured finance, SME lending, venture debt and real estate, as well as trends in cover pricing, covenants, leverage ratios and refinancing.

The forum will also draw on ICAEW’s very popular Debt for Deals best-practice guideline published by the faculty in November 2018, and co-authored by Clydesdale Bank (see ‘Handle with care’, Corporate Financier, November 2018).  Copies of the report will be available for all attendees.

David Petrie said: “This is a very good opportunity for Corporate Finance Faculty members who do deals in the North West to test the appetite for lending for M&A, private equity deals and growth finance at a tricky time for the UK economy. We appreciate the invitation from our Institute colleagues in the region to help organise this forum on Merseyside – and thank Tilney for its support in kindly hosting it.”

Alexandra Pilkington, ICAEW’s Regional Executive in Merseyside & Cheshire, said: “ The Corporate Finance market in the North West is extremely strong and I’m delighted that we have been able to bring together such an influential panel of experts for this event. I hope the forum will also enable us to showcase the great talent and opportunities that exist in the Liverpool City Region.  I’m extremely grateful to both David and Shaun for making this happen”.

Steve Stuart, Chair of the Liverpool City Region PBS Board added “It is a great privilege for Liverpool to host such a prestigious event for financiers/advisers across the Region and this will undoubtedly help showcase deal flow across the NW region. For the Regions growth to happen it is imperative local businesses have access to and more importantly a working knowledge of all forms of finance currently on offer.”
